Hello, group. Just wanted to "permanently" rid myself of the Web site
"lookfor.cc." It keeps forcing its way into my IE6 as the home page. Have
tried Ad-aware, Hijack This, AV scans but these only work temporarily. I can
change the home page back to my favorite using Tools / Options, but
lookfor.cc keeps coming back. Any help appreciated. Thanks. And Happy New
Year. Joe

Try running spybot...that should help.
Change your security and cookie settings to "High" to
prevent more scam to enter your machine. A firewall will
also help. Zonealarm from Zonelabs is free of chanrge and
very good !

Thanks JR and Ramesh: I'l try all of your suggestions. I already downloaded
and ran CWShredder -- it found three nasties. Second. I downloaded the MS
security patch suggested on Ramesh's Web site. Rebooted. Looks okay so far.
SpyBot is next. I'll post back with results. Thanks for the help. Happy New
Year. Joe

Mr. Starin ;)

The CWShredder will do it for you. Clean-up with "Hijack This", just to be sure.
(My best guess it that's an un yet discover "CWS" cool web search affiliate.

One more thing, silj: What do you make of a BHO singled out by Hijack This.
In my Program Files folder is a folder named "Submit" that contains three
files: submithook.dll; uninstall.exe; and uninstall.ini. The DLL file is an
"application extrension." I also have a new program showing in Add/Remove
programs named "Submit URL." Sounds funny. Google not much help. Thanks.

I agree,
It's a hijacker. {2E9CAFF6-30C7-4208-8807-E79D4EC6F806} BHO Submithook.dll

Please keep us informed as to which parasite was the culprit.
