Getting rid of hijacker

I have tried using a number of tools to remove a hijacker that causes IE to
load numerous ad type pages every time it is used.

I am thinking that my best method to finally stop this is to uninstall IE
from my computer, it is running Windows XP Pro Version 2002, Service Pack 2,
and then reinstall it again.

Does anyone have suggestions/input?

Thanking in advance,
Sonny Martin

Their are many so called malware removal tools out there that in fact
install the malware they report, what have you done already? what tools?

Reinstalling IE won't do it.

If you haven't already done so, try this routine.
1. Download and Install without importing anything from IE the Firefox
Browser http://www.mozilla.com/
2. Download and install HijackThis from: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
3. Run Hijackthis and save the log file to your hard drive.
4. Visit http://www.hijackthis.de/ At the bottom you will see a place to
Browse for the log file that you created in step 3. Click Analyze. Wait a
few moments and your browser will display a list of processees on your
computer designating some as "Nasty."
5. Follow the instructions.

If the nastys return, you may wish to turn off System Restore, remove the
nastys and then reboot. Turn System Restore back on.

As someone else pointed out, re-installing IE will unlikely fix the
problem--- the uninstall routine will almost certainly leave many files
behind because Windows XP itself uses those components; those
components might include the adware infection(s).

What tools have you used to remove the adware hi-jack software? I use
three:

1) SpyBot Search and Destroy
2) Spyware Blaster
3) Ad-Aware SE Personal

Working together these seem to do a good job of protecting one's
computer from the hi-jackers. SpyBot will also innoculate one's
computer to prevent hi-jacking.

I am utterly astounded that criminals actually believe victims will
purchase their products and services after the criminals have illegally
installed software on the victims' computers. Bloody amazing!

Thank you!

I followed your directions and found the following two processes. After I
removed them the problem is gone.

O2 - BHO: web compressor - {23FB5ADD-DA37-4a40-9FC0-B0E2384CDE92} -
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsv7E.dll

O2 - BHO: RieMon Class - {70F6A776-579A-4C95-BA88-134253907752} -
C:\WINDOWS\system32\irsmpnnv.dll

Thanks again,

#5 is really not a recommended option. Post your problem to
microsoft.public.security.virus to obtain appropriate and safe instructions.
