I keep getting porn posts in this forum. Is there a filter in OE as there is
in Outlook to get rid of this.

Thank you.

I seldom see these. They are taken off by the Microsoft server pretty
quickly. Are you connecting directly to that server rather than through a
proxy? Also, when I do get one, under the Message menu there is a command to
block messages from this sender. I don't know that this is real effective
but do know that I am blocking some messages. Be careful with this choice,
though, because some spammers use (e-mail address removed) or the default
anonymous email that a lot of legitimate users use as an email address.

Today is the first time I am seeing them. I went to the Excel forum and
noticed they are there. I am connected through Tools, Newsgroups in OE.

Yes, but what is your newsgroup server? Is it msnews.microsoft.com or are
you connecting through another news server? When they are removed from the
Microsoft server, other mirroring servers may not remove them.

microsoft.public.word.newusers

Am I connecting correctly? Maybe I should be connecting to another server?

Hi Nellie

In Outlook Express, in the left-hand pane, you'll see
microsoft.public.word.newusers. That entry will be joined with faint dotted
lines to a higher-level entry (in the same way that the Inbox is joined to
Local Folder). The icon for the higher-level entry looks like a grey brick
with a piece of paper thumbtacked to it.

The question is: what is the name of that higher-level entry above
microsoft.public.word.newusers? Is it msnews.microsoft.com? If not, then you
must be connecting to Microsoft's newsgroup through another server (perhaps
a server provided by your ISP). And perhaps that server has not deleted
inappropriate messages.

If that's the case, then you can connect direct to Microsoft's server. To do
that, in Outlook Express, do Tools > Accounts. Click Add and choose News. Go
through the wizard, and when you get to the one asking for News (NNTP
Server) enter msnews.microsoft.com.

You'll then get to download the list of newsgroups on the
msnews.microsoft.com server, and you can choose the Word groups.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Charles, Shauna and Graham. I was accessing the newsgroup through
my ISP but thanks to you guys I am now connecting directly to the server
which got rid of all the offensive posts.

Thanks again!
