I had trouble getting online. I had to unplug the modem for about 25
seconds and then I got online. I asked this newsgroup about it and was told
I needed a new modem. I called Dell and was told I needed a new modem.
Yesterday I got a new modem but I still have the same problem. Anyone have
any idea about what is really wrong? Road Runner, my ISP said everyting
look perfectly okay. Anyone?

If this happens after the computer sleeps for awhile, open Device
Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card/NIC, click the Power
tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save
power". If the modem plugs into a USB port, do the same thing with the
USB ports.

It's also possible the power supply needs replacing. Have you tried a
hardware group?

I've looked back and can't see any post from you with info about your
computer type or modem type or internet connection type, wireless/wired
etc. That might help a bit. And I know what you mean by not
online... the web page does not show up, but what other diagnostics have
you done? Did you repair connection? Check cables? I know you know,
but do we?

Also I'd suggest you don't use your real email address. Good way to
start getting spam. They just love to grab emails from newsgroups.
Most people won't send emails to you anyway, we just post messages to
the newsgroup.

The technician who replaced my modem checked the power and the cable lines.
Everything was ok. I don't know how to do the things that you guys
suggested.
I have a Dell Windows xp. my modem is an RCA.

The lasr time you had this problem, you say you solved it by unplugging
the modem and plugging it back in. So I'm not sure why anyone would
suggest that you needed to replace your modem since you got your
Internet service back. Perhaps you can post a link to that particular
thread.

What exactly is the problem? What do you mean by the phrase "trouble
getting online?" Please include as much detail as possible.
