As mentioned in another thread, I've embarked on a long-overdue computer
upgrade: from W95 on a Pentium-I class processor to W2k-Pro on a low-end
DELL notebook (still *very* high-end compared to what I've been using!)
The next thing I'd like to do is apply whatever service packs to my W2k
system that are recommended*, but to do that, I need to get my laptop
online via my Time-Warner Cable modem, so I can download them.=3F
So far, I've installed the driver for the Ethernet adapter, and it seems
to be working okay according to Device Manager. And I've tried to make
the Network settings similar to what's set up on my W95 system. But
something's not working, since I cannot establish any MSIE browser
sessions.
I should also mention that from a physical hookup perspective, all I've
done is simply unplug the cable (outbound from the modem) from my W95
computer and plugged it into my laptop.
Basically, at this point, I'm clueless. I don't know if Time-Warner has
my service mapped to my W95 PC's Ethernet card address or what? Or
perhaps it's mapped to W95 PC's network name (although this seems less
likely).
Any help you can proved will be most appreciated.

P.S. I considered posting this to the network m.p.w2k.network newsgroup,
but after scanning the threads there, it seems like my question revolves
around more of a setup issue than a real bonafide networking issue.

=3F at least I assume Microsoft has them available for download somewhere
