Have a slight problem NTL broadband,

Wired thus > Modem>Linksys BEFW 1154 router>PC, this is what happens boot-up PC`s, no problems windows settles down> connect to Internet this is where it gets tricky> open either IE/FF/OPERA, times out> refresh and/or restart same thing happens? Now if I do this> open lets say IE one after the other 20/30 times, > close the group> open IE again it works OK? > Now I go to another site> say Google, now that is a very fast site yes, not for me until I try 5/6 times> then search>that is fast>choose a site at random> nothing just times out> have run all AVs/speed test ETC: Nothing found. It happens Wired or wireless.
Spec 3 PCs all different. They crunch OK though;)

First thing NTL help will tell you to do is re-boot the Modem, so you may as well try that before you call ;)

Nothing wrong with the router, I set it up at my mates this morning to test no problem for three hours online.

I tell you what I think it is, it`s the Modem:nod: And I will bet on that:D

Now, I have done something this evening to test it my self, the Router> repaired network connections connected the modem on its own with cable, no difference now at the rear of the modem I notice the light is intermittent, it should be on constant so what does that tell me The modem is US. No swearing YET;)

Update!
Spoken to NTL again today:nod:
NTL Have a problem in the area?

Apparently it has messed/broken quite a few modems?

Well, the engineer will be here tomorrow, we will then find out for certain.

i used ntl help 3/4 years ago and it was great, and they were in britain...!

probably outsourced now

Sorted

Ok! If you use NTL>

Here is the result from the engineer, the problem Ummmmmm….. Was the fact that NTL upgraded all broadband, from 1mb to 2mb, from 2mb to 4mb, free of charge?:p

During this process the Internet connection will be disrupted? But NTL gave no notice to its customers as to what would happen.

During the upgrade [nationwide] as the modem could not cope with the new transfer speed? therefore a new connector has been attached to the modem to accommodate the extra bandwith being used:D , also he added it was almost impossible to contact NTL by Telephone to report a fault due to, the volume of calls received if you did it would take 1Hr +

The engineer was very good in his explanation, in English:nod: ? Made one phone call and hey presto I now have 4mb BB.

Patience is a virtue, and my gawd I needed it with NTL on this occasion.

Mind you it is one of the very few problems I have had with them so, I will remain a customer for the time being. :thumb:
I am now a HAPPY BUNNY:D
