Hi all,

With XP Home on my computer at work, how
difficult is it to log into it from home, it is behind
a WRT54G and runs Zone Alarm Suite?

How do I even "find" my computer from home?

Do I need to add more software on both machines?

thanks,
charles.....

You really need to contact your work network administrators about this
issue. If it is a legitimate need they will probably set you up with a VPN.
Doing this on your own may violate company policies about connecting an
untrusted system, ie. your home PC, to a trusted system, ie. your work
network and PC...

I am the network administrator at work. This is my first time at doing
this. I need to be able to sit at home and work like I was sitting at my
computer at work. I need a detailed instruction list on how to do this.
Both computers are XP Home not Pro.

thanks,
charles....

OK... Then look at using UltraVNC since XP Home can not act as a Remote
Desktop host. Get the host/server, client, encryption plug-in and XP video
driver (installed on the host/server only) from...

ultravnc.sourceforge.net

You would need to open TCP Port 5900 on any firewall/router your work PC is
behind. UltraVNC support can be found here...

Good luck...

Hi Charles I am a novice user - but got around this issue - First you
need to ensure that your connection to the 'work' pc has been allowed
on that domain - it recognises you. When this is done by your
administrator - you need to set up a new connection via network
connecitons in windows - typically the only IP address you need will be
"(e-mail address removed)" etc.
Then when this connection is set up - go to program, accessories,
communications, remote desktop connecs.
you will need you onw PC IP address on the work network typically the
same as your main networj but with the last digit identifying your p.c.
e.g. 192.168.20.32 (32 being your pc's number /node on the system.
I think you have to share your pc on the settings
It works well - If I can manage it - I'm sure 99% of others can

Thanks, will give it a shot. How does NAT on the router affect
the process if at all?

later....
