I work at a school and we have a few Windows 2000 machines that can get an IP
Address but they can't get out to the Internet. I have tried inputting a
static IP and the computer can get on the internet. an ideas what is keeping
them from getting on the internet with a DHCP assigned address?

DHCP is probably assigning a private address IP rather than public.

How is this whole thing setup? Without more information there's just too
many answers that COULD fit... The other post - about a private IP address -
may actually be the problem... Domain? Router? Etc? Fill us full of
information and someone will figure it out. :)

The school district has a wan every school has one or more subnets at the
present time we are using a cisco router, most of the switches we are using
on campus are bay network switches this is a problem that has just started
happening. We went all last school year without any problems getting
connected with these computers, this is something that just started happening
this week.

I'd go to see the IP as it's been handed out - in the first response given
by Frankster he pointed out that it could be that those PCs are being given
a private IP address. Quite often that's a problem with WinSock and you can
find various fixes around the net or just fix them manually. What's the IP
address on one of these computer?
