I was online and using WS_FTP Pro. When I saw afile in my domain,
index.cfm, I thought this was a mistake should not be there. I deleted
it and the next time I tried to access my domain, the message "You are
not allowed to view this site" appeared. I am a neophyte when it comes
to problems like this.

What?

What you seem to be asking is a web server issue and not a Windows XP (or
even truly a Windows XP Security) issue.

If I am understanding you, your "domain" is your web site address -
www.yourdomainname.com (.net, .eu, .org, whatever..) You were editing your
web site and uploading/downloading files. You saw a file called index.cfm
and deleted it off your web site. I think in your context - cfm might have
something to do with Cold Fusion - but it could be other things.

You need to find out what the configuration of your web site has for "index"
files - or the initial file that is accessed when someone visits the site.
It could be many things (at once - in a given order) or it could be one file
(like index.html.)

Hopefully your web server has a backup you can restore. Presumably whoever
coded the page also has a copy they can upload again.

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)".
