Getting MS to notice

I am having a continuing problem of trying on the Data tab of the property
sheet, to click ( ... ) to open the Query Builder. Every time I do it, I
get thrown out of ACCESS. I gave up creating a .bkp file when I got to the
number 9. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I have let an error message go
to MS each time it has happened but it is REALLY getting annoying.

Is there a way to get some help from someone who might know what is going on?

In addition to Gina's advice, I thought it might be helpful to point out
that, when you send those error messages to Microsoft, you are NOT making
contact with any sort of "support" group. The subject line on your post
seems to suggest that you are under that impression and that you think you
are being ignored. While it's true that no one is going to notice one
individual error message, it is not done out of indifference.

It might be useful to picture, instead, a huge cargo ship being loaded with
grain via a screw auger. Millions and millions of individual grains go up
that auger into the hold of the ship, where they join other millions of
grains in one big amorphous pile.

Unfortunately, that analogy is not all that much of an exageration when it
comes to the error messages submit to MS. They go into a huge database with
thousands (if not millions) of other error messages from which MS tries to
extract meaningful information about problems in their software so that they
can, at least theoretically, fix them in the next Service Pack. (LOL).

I know I'm not getting a support group. Someone else told me to respond to the "send report" message by sending it - that volume will cause invoke the chaos theory and possibly get a response. I just think that it is possible that a lowly user might have a problem that could possibly elicit a notice by someone somewhere that the problem might be significant.

DogmaDot,

First, MAKE A BACK-UP... Then create a new database and import all your
Objexts into it and see if the same thing happens.

THANKS! It worked.

It worked - mostly. THe only problem was that after I copied the the
original db files and I looked at a query in the design mode, the individual
fields were not in the box ***** query - instead there was a * in the box and
the individual fields in the grid below were all prefaced by "Expr1", Expr2,
Exprnnnnnnnn. Is there a simple way to fix this?

True, that's the theory. If enough people report the same problem, it could
bubble to the top of the heap. I believe it does work well, in the
aggregate.

My point was really just to clarify that a) individual reports don't really
trigger responses and that b) these news groups, while supporting MS
products, are not operated by MS. A report to MS via the "Send an error
report" option isn't the same as getting an expert like Gina to help you
out.

That's a good analogy. MS has explained that they know applications
which crash cause people trouble. They go to great lengths to solve
these problems. However as you point out this won't necessarily
happen until the next SP.

It was kinda funny to hear one MS person in the Access product group
make a comment "Yeah, and my mother beats up on me for Windows issues.
I keep telling her I have nothing to do with Windows XP development
but she still beats up on me."
