Any cheap way of getting your mini-dv movies into a computer other than
the camcorder intself?

I use a studio Canon Gl-1 and want to take the mini-dv tape home and
upload the movie to my laptop. Can't afford a mini-dv vcr right now
(unless I can find one for less the $100). Been thinking about a 512
jump drive.

512MB is not much for video in terms of space.
You need 13GB per hour if you capture as DV-AVI and around 700MB for high
bitrate WMV

Mini-DV VCRs are not coming down in price, they will never be mainstream.

Get a cheap DV camcorder to use as a VCR, or borrow one from a friend.

Hello there,

Why not take yout laptop to work and do the transfer.

I've been doing that and it's a hassle. The idea of a cheap camcorder
seems to be the solution here. How cheap are used ones these days?
