Getting lots of "X's" on screen

Why on certain web sites do I get lots of squares with a "X" at the top left
corner of each? And, second, if I get an ActiveX bar at the top of the
screen that doesn't permit me to open a particular item, how can I
circumnavigate the block?

Did you try clicking the bar?
