Last night I purchased an HP XP276 laptop that has XP
Home installed. I want to partition the hard drive (that
is ADD and additional partition) which necessitates the
use of FDISK. As you all know, when you FDISK you are
reformatting the hard drive and OS must be re-installed.
The problem is that I can't get a copy of the OEM WIN XP
HOME disk. HP won't send me one. I am desperate. How
can I obtain an OEM disk? Can anybody help me?

ps the recovery disk will not do. It must be the OEM
disk. Thanks again.

If you buy that sort of gear from any of those makers that use a restore
disk then I say you deserve what you get.
But anyway DON'T use FDISK in XP. Just like puting water in your petrol
tank.
Beg, borrow, buy or steal a copy of partition magic (later version for XP) &
you won't lose your old stuff.
As for a disk? You got any friends? It's only a disk & not the reg number.

Risa;
If you do anything at all especially to the partition, you risk
destroying the recovery partition.
Even the 3rd party partition applications can inadvertently destroy
it.
At that point you will need the CD or you will need to buy Windows XP.

Contact HP again and ask for a supervisor if necessary.
I have known people that got the recovery CDs for free, others had to
pay about $15 for the CD.
If there is no way to get the CD, pack up the computer immediately and
return it.
Sooner or later you WILL need a CD and once warranty ends, your
options get slim very fast.
