After installing OneCare it complained about a required Microsoft
update. It downloaded and tried to install something for the Intel
chipset ... and it failed to install. The error code says get help!
That is really a useful message, MS.

I tried the Microsoft update and got the same result.

Anyone have any ideas?

Alfred--

I'm confused. What does One Care needing an update (did you install 1.5
which is the only version that works on Vista) have to do with an Intel
chipset "something"?

Tell us what One Care said it needed if you can? Is One Care running OK and
is it 1.5 and does everything else work fine? If so I wouldn't worry about
it. One Care will update itself in the future.

One Care will only warn of critical (security) updates. The chipset update
should not be the update One Care is looking for. Hardware updates are best
downloaded from the manufacturer website. I suggest going to Windows Update,
perform a custom scan, expand the chipset software update and check the box
that says "Don't show this update again". Accept and install any critical
updates offered. Then go to the motherboard manufacturer website and look
for updated chipset software. Download and save it to your computer. Disable
antivirus and antispyware, close any open programs. Install the updated
chipset software.

Right now I don't know which version I installed, it is not my laptop
and I don't have it. I assume that when I go to the Microsoft website
that it will of course have the latest software for downloading. It
does work with Vista so I guess it must be 1.5.

One care does a lot of things, it told us that a Microsoft update is
available for the machine. We just told it to install it. After
downloading, it tried to install and failed with a Hex error code
that it translated into English, "Get Help". Not very helpful!

I usual Microsoft update also failed on this install.

The laptop currently has 512MB memory and I am installing more memory
on Tuesday so maybe that is the help it requires. :-)
