Getting Diagnostic Output From Publish Now

I select Diagnostic for MSBuild project build output verbosity. This works for Clean and Build.
Unfortunately, Publish Now flushes everything from the Output Window just before it does the actual
copy to the web site. Is there someway to change this behavior so I don't lose all of the
diagnostic information?

Should have mentioned: Visual Studio 2005

If there isn't anyway to change the default output behavior is there a way to send the output to a
file instead of the output windows?

Hello Stewart,

The managed support service of the newsgroup
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb is now available instead on Visual
Basic Forums:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/visualbasic. Would
you please repost the question in the forum with the Windows Live ID used
to access your Subscription benefits? Our engineers will assist you in the
new platform. The article
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa974230.aspx introduces more
information about the migration. In the future, please post your
VB.NET-related questions directly to the forums. If you have any questions
or concerns, please feel free to contact us: (e-mail address removed).

MSDN Managed Newsgroup and Forum support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 2 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations

There isn't anything about the migration or how to setup an offline reader. Where is the
information on reading offline? Online forums don't work well for me. I have book marked message
(equivalent to keep in an offline reader) and then find they aren't there when I need them.

The managed support service of the newsgroup
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb is now available instead on Visual

Will the existing threads in this newsgroup be migrated or do I have to post each of them (and their
chain of replies) in the forums?

The existing threads in this newsgroup will not be moved to the forum. Your
previous posts will still be in your offline newsgroup reader if you keep
them just like before.

We're actually just moving the VB.NET online support service from this
newsgroup to the MSDN Forum. You're welcomed to post questions &
discussions on the MSDN forum, and we'll be assisting you there the same as
we did here before.

That page listed the technologies that has been migrated to the forum (with
a link to corresponding forum after the tech name).

Regarding the offline reading, I personally use the Windows Live Mail
desktop software (http://download.live.com/wlmail) as my single application
for RSS feeds and Newsgroups. With every single post you're interested in,
you can subscribe to that post's RSS feed. And your RSS reader software
will download and keep update the post content & replies, usually these
downloaded RSS feeds contents are available for reading offline.

I don't know what browser you're using, but if you use IE 7.0 or higher,
you can simply open the post you're interested in, click on the RSS feed
icon following the post title, and then click the "Subscribe to this feed"
in the coming up RSS feed page. Now if you uses Windows Live Mail (desktop)
as your RSS reader, you can read your subscribed posts in the "Feeds" tab;
even offline after the feeds are synchronized when connected.

Other RSS reader shall have the same function and similar in usage.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jie Wang

I'm test driving NewsHound. I can live with it for now. It does most of the things I want and
hopefully will do the rest as it matures.

Yes, but to continue a thread conversation (i.e. Dotfuscator and ClickOnce) it would be necessary to
copy enough of the thread to keep things in context.

Yes, but the user community -- which does supply a great deal of information -- will not necessarily
follow. For the newsgroups that are available both on Microsoft's web site and via offline news

I'll be there (and here).

Hi Stewart,

For your on going threads in this newsgroup posted before July 30th, we
will keep working with you towards the solution.

For questions posted after July 30th, we will post the migration notice in
the reply and the questions need to be posted on the forum to receive the
prioritized support.

The decision of the migration is made based on various of statistics of the
community (NG and forums). We already noticed your offline reading
requirement. There may be a solution to this requirement (I'm not very sure
about the details yet). Before that, I personally recommend the RSS
solution for offline reading.

If you have any other concerns please let us know.

Already there for new questions. Although I am not sure about the structure. For example, I've had
at least one response suggesting I post the question in the MSBuild forum instead of the particular
VB.NET forum I posted in. But the MSBuild forum is not in the list of monitored forums/newsgroups.
about the details yet). Before that, I personally recommend the RSS
solution for offline reading.

I haven't played with RSS and don't know what is involved in storing all of the posted messages.
NewsHound hands the message retrieval and storage very well. Since it is an Outlook add-on it
suffers from the limitation of Outlook in things the ability to mark threads as watched and to
filter on that. But it does 85% of the job and doesn't require any care and feeding.

The online forums -- well I better keep it clean. I have been trying to get an answer to a question
that affects the build process for three weeks. I really thing MS should move them to news groups
where unanswered questions are highly visible so someone actually monitors them.

Could you let me know the link to that post? I'll check it.

Okay, I have asked our engineer to assist you on that post.

As you know, the Priority Subscriber Support is currently in the progress
of a migration from the newsgroups to the MSDN forums. There are quite a
lot products/technologies so that we decided to do the migration in phases.
Phase one is already done, as reflected on the "Priority Subscriber Support
in MSDN Forums and Newsgroups" page
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa974230.aspx).

** On that page, queues marked as [Forum] means the support is now offered
in the MSDN Forums, while other queues we still provide support in
newsgroups. **

We understand there could be inconveniences and confusions during the
migration, and we're working hard to push the progress. I'm sorry about the
problems you've met. And thank you for your feedback. If you met any
Priority Subscriber Support problems in the future, please feel free to let
our Online Concierge Team know (you can contact them anytime on your
subscription homepage).

Thanks again for your understanding.

I think I found out why I didn't get a response.

Both the VB and C# IDE forums are managed. The same is true of the ClickOnce and Setup & Deployment
Projects forum. But if you run into a problem in building a solution/project that is caused by
MSBUILD you have to post to the MSBUILD forum since it is broken out separately. Unfortunately, the
MSBUILD forum is not listed as one of the managed ones. It is a critical component of the Visual
Studio development cycle and needs to be treated as such.

F.Y.I. I got a response that was basically yes I can reproduce the problem but you need to raise it
in another forum -- Common Language Runtime (which is unmanaged).

The other suggestion was to use the Connect site to report the problem against VS 2008 since
Microsoft is still supporting that and the problem can be reproduced there. However, it doesn't do
me any good to have a fix for VS 2008 when I am using VS 2005. (I don't remember getting notified
that VS 2005 was retired but there doesn't seem to be anyway to report bugs without paying for the
privilege.)

I will try the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.clr news group as it is still listed as being
managed.
