I'm running office 2003 and when I add a contact in Outlook, after filling in
the info it seems no matter what i change it is displayed as "john jones"
instead of "jones, john". Changing the "file as" field has no effect, neither
does re-typing the name. This driving me nuts. What am I doing wrong?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

You need to provide clear details. How are we supposed to know to what view
you are referring and what isn't happening that you imagine should be? As a
bonus to us, you might try posting the settings you set for the File As
field.

Sorry if i wasn't clear. In Outlook Address Book when I try adding a contact seemingly no matter how I enter the name in the file as field, it ends up in the index listed by first name instead of last name (John Jones instead of Jones, John).
Changing the file as field (reversing the order) on an entry has no effect.
Some of my entries are listed correctly some are not. How do I change so that
all are listed and ranked by last name?
Thank you>

First of all you should never be adding or editing information in the
address book view. All data should be entered in one of the Contacts Folder
interfaces.
Secondly, the setting for sorting the address book view do not abide by the
settings you set for your Contacts. You set the address book sort order
here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change… > Set your sort order there
