Can anyone tell me why I am only getting commas when I try to pick a To or Cc
from any contact folder as I create a new message. I am using Outlook on XP.

In Outlook 2003, Help returned this:
1.. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2.. Click E-Mail Options and then click Advanced E-Mail Options.
3.. Under When sending a message, unselect the Allow comma as address
separator check box.

Sounds to me like you imported Contacts and mapped fields incorrectly.

Russ,
Yes I believe it is a mapping issue. It seems that unless I map email to
email address and map last name to Display name nothing comes over...also
when I first tried to import I was prompted to insert my MS Office XP Small
Business CD...which I did. In the past (with NT) I have been able to map
Last Name First Name and email address and the import has worked but I am
having trouble with XP Office/Outlook. Also it does not work when I only map
to email address.

From what format are you importing and how was this file created?
As I recall, the correct field for field for the email address is "Email"
and the correct field for the Display name is "Email Display As"

If you want to find out the correct fields to use for your version of
Outlook, just create a list view of your Contacts and use Field chooser to
add fields to the column headers. That will tell you the correct field
designation for each field.

Russ,
My problem persists...I seem to have successfully imported the fields into
the contact folder...however when I try to use "Select Names" as part of
creating a new message...I select a name for To: or Cc: or Bcc: but I get
nothing inserted. In Outlook XP are there certain fields that are used with
the "Select Names" Box?

No. You should be mapping exactly the way that KB article tells you. It was
written for Outlook 2002.

OK I am getting somewhere now. I have to map email to email address. One last
question. How do you mass change the field "email display as" to read the
name only in a contact folder. When importing that field defaults to the
email address..
Thanks for your help.

You would have to use code to do that. I'm not sure why there would be a
need to do so, but here are the instructions:
