Getting Bumped Off Vendor Sites

I've had this problem for months, but thought it was the
fault of a certain vendor. Today, I installed a
competitor's browser and had no problems at the site. This
tells me it is the browser -- or something else on my
system -- that is at fault.

I am running Windows XP Pro. I log onto a particular
vendor's site, typing my username and password. Then as I
navigate around the site, I am automatically logged off.
This has made the site unusable.

I has been suggested to me that the browser is not able to
"remember" that I am logged on -- but I really don't know.
I have tried clearing the cache, deleting cookies,
verifying the cookie settings, verifying the java script
settings, restarting the browser and cold rebooting the
system. Nothing works. Somehow, something changed several
months ago that is screwing up my access to this particular
site -- perhaps one of the many updates I have downloaded
since I installed this system. I considered reinstalling
IE, but apparently this requires (a) editing the registry,
which I'm not too keen on doing, and (b) reinstalling every
update I have acquired since the system was installed, a
year and a half ago.

I have two questions: (1) does anyone know what could be
wrong with IE on my system? (2) if I have to reinstall IE,
is there an easier way than what I have mentioned here?

Thanks.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and click/highlight your browser MSIE. Click
Add/Remove and a menu will pop up giving you the option to run a repair,
reinstall or whatever. With IE 5.5 it is mostly a waste of time and I don't
think it ever fixed anything for me. It is a glimmer of hope for you. Good
luck.

Try a better browser, Firefox, free at www.mozilla.org and at least you can
use what sites you want. It is very similar to IE so no big learning curve.
