Getting beyond local server

I can make a connection to my local server but can't get
any further. When I try to visit a web site I get the DNS
message - Cannot find server.

When I try to access my e-mail the message is: Error
getting network address.

Don't know if this is related or not - when I shut down my
computer, there is a wupdater.exe program that runs. The
status bar goes right to the end and then I get a "not-
responding" message that asks if I want to "end now."
When I do, everything closes OK and the computer shuts
down. Re-starts OK, too.

Hi Timothy
Sounds as if you don't have DNS settings configured. Run ipconfig /all from
a command prompt and look at the dns server settings in the list.
You don't say how your network connects to the internet. I'm assuming it's
ICS through server.
Does your pc have a dynamic or static IP address ? If it's dynamic, the dhcp
server should return the DNS settings to your pc when it gives you an IP
address. If it's static, you need to enter DNS settings manually in the TCP
properties of your local area connection.
If static, try using the IP address of your server/router and if that
doesn't work then you'll need to find the ip addresses of your ISPs DNS
servers (should be available from running ipconfig /all from your server in
case of ICS (or looking at status screens of router) )
