Hi, I've tried to edit a family picture saved in my
pictures, done this once before and it saved my changes
and original picture, on this occasion it hasn't it has
just altered the original. Is there any way in which to
retrieve the lost image and thus repairing original
picture to its original state. What i've done is clicked
on edit, found the little curser with two little arrows
on and dragged it in to make the picture smaller, this
was only meant to be a temporary thing hoping that it
would save like last time but it didn't. please help as
it is a family photo, thankyou for your time, please
help!!!

=================================
If you "Save" an edited file...it replaces
the original. A file that has been overwritten
cannot be recovered.

If you use "Save As" and give the edited
file a new name it does not replace the
original.

Also...if you save the edited file in a different
format it does not replace the original.

If you had a program like Norton GoBack
installed you could revert your hard drive
to a time before the file was edited.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get the original picture.
When you made the change, you have to use "Save as"
and change the original file name to something else, you can add anything,
even just one letter to the original file name, so you get a new file.
You probably clicked on "Save" and then you received the message "do you
want to replace the original file".
You answered yes. The original file is now replaced with your new selection.
If it is any consolation, you are not alone. We have answered this here many
times. To avoid such a problem, never edit an original file. Make a copy of
it first and edit the copy. Here is a simple way to do it.
Right click on the picture you want to edit.
Click on Copy on the opening menu.
Hold the Ctrl key down and press the letter V.
This adds a new file in your folder. Same name as the original file, but
with the words "Copy of" in front of it.
You then open "Copy of........." and make the changes you want.
