Getting Access To Terminal Services

Hello all

I have an installation of Win2K Professional and I wish to use Terminal
Services to access it. Well, actually I want to access it through XP Remote
Desktop, but I gather this is much the same thing.

I assume I need to install Win2K Server, and wish to ask those in the know
whether:

a) I can install Win2K Server over the top of Win2K Pro
b) all my installed apps / registry settings etc. will be maintained by
doing so

What you want is not really possible.

W2K Professional can only be a TS (or RDP, you are right, that's
the same thing) client, not a server. So there is no way to
remotely connect to a W2K Pro with rdp, you would need to use
NetMeeting, VNC or pcAnywhere for that.

Another way to go is of course to install a server OS, like W2K
Server. But that seems overkill if you just want remote access to
a (essentially) workstation.
Also: there is no upgrade path from W2K Pro to W2K Server, so you
would have to reinstall from scratch.
Instead, I would upgrade W2K Pro to XP Pro, which gives you
exactly what you want (if I understand it correctly).

I use VNC right now, but it's a bit weak. I was hoping I would get better
results from Terminal Services.

NetMeeting, huh? I have never used that. I didn't realise it gave a similar
behaviour...
