I currently have a HP Deskjet 720C printer on a Windows 98SE, which I am
sharing to my network. The network is a wired network which is connected to
a Netgear Router. I recently just got a new computer that is running Windows
XP SP2 Media Center Edition on it and it has all of the latest service packs.
I was trying to connect the Windows XP SP2 machine to this printer, but when
I run the Print Test Page, I get the following error message "Test page
failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for
assistance? Unable to create a print job." Then I give the choice of "Yes"
or "No". The strange thing about this is the Windows XP SP2 computer is
seeing the Printer when I tell it to look for a network printer, but it is
not seeing the Printer if I go to My Network Places. (This could just be due
to a Windows XP thing that I am just not aware of.) Anyway, it allowed me to
install the drivers, but for some reason it will not print. I have also
tried printing in both Notepad and Wordpad, but neither one worked. I have
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but that did not work. I
have turned off and closed out all security software on my computer. I am
also able to ping all of the computers in the network from my Windows XP SP2
machine, so I know it is not a network problem. I don't believe there should
be an issue as far as file format (FAT 32 versus NTFS) since this is just a
printer, but I could be wrong. Any ideas on this issue would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
