If Microsoft reads this, is there a way to UP GRADE this
XP to Windows 2000? And PLEASE DO NOT DUMP 2000, its the
best thing you have.

From my computer with Win2000 on it I can connect to the
net port on the printer(through a switch, I was planning
ahead) and it has worked fine. I have connected from the
win xp and get no printing.
If I ping I get a 100% loss.
If I ping from my 2000 machine I get 100% ok.
The LAN port is on the mother board, and show up in the
hardware list.

If anyone has any help it would be appreciated.

Please give your XP info. Firewall on / off , software firewall other on /
off ?

Are you using a HUB , Router , Switch , to connect your equipment together
?

Can we assume that your printer has an IP address since you can talk to it
via the W2k box which does not have all the firewall stuff.
XP has build in firewall that will prevent all sorts of thing from working
well in a LAN if not set up right.

Since you can not ping it have you verified your connectivity to the switch
from your
XP system. Can you ping your W2K box from the XP system or visa-versa?

With my configuration of XP home , Windows 2000 Professional , and a Windows
98se
all connected together, everything works just fine once I was able to either
disable
the firewall software or configure the firewall software to allow all my LAN
addresses
to be passed through as trusted members of the LAN.

The XP firewall or NORTON products will block your traffic to a "unknown" IP
address
even if it is your own LAN. It must be configured.

Good Luck
