I ran through the demo of the install of SUS and it seems
to install alright on the windows2000 server I'm running.
The problem is when I go to edit the group policy for the
domain, the policies that pertain to having the
workstations go to ther server to do their windows
updates don't exist. Any ideas? I would send a screen
shot but this group doesn't have any accomodation for
that.

The server is going to update site and downloading the
updates, but I can't get the clients to be controlled by
the local server.

Go into the group policy for the domain/ou that you want it to apply to. I
tend to create new policies rather than modify existing ones (makes things
easier to undo), but it's your choice. Under the Computer configuration,
right-click Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Template. Click
the Add button in the dialog box, select the wuau.adm template and select
Open. When you open up Adminsitrative Templates/Windows Components, you will
now have a policy template for Windows Update.

Thanks Mark,
That was a help, after I added the wuau.adm template it
added a policy for:
Specify intranet Microsoft update service location

but it didn't give me policies for:

Reschedule Automatic Updates scheduled installations
No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates
installations

Any ideas?
Thanks for the help. I have used the policy to set the
Microsoft location to the domain controller and I will
see if it is going to work tommorrow!

I'll defer to someone more knowledgeable on this one, but I've always seen
four policies on Win2K, whether as a group policy on the domain or a local
policy on the local machine. XP seems to only have two policies on the local
machine and I have no idea what 2003 looks like. I think that particular
template went in with Win2K SP3, so my first question would have to be
whether you are running 2K or 2003 on your domain controller and whether you
have installed the lastest service pack.

Good luck.
