Hello! I hope this is the right forum for this question. I want to know if
there is any way of making a setting for the (microsoft) explorer (not
Internet explorer but the one you use for browsing through your files, and
dont know what it is calle din English but in Swedish it is called
"Utforskaren" which means Explorer) (the one you get when you right click on
the big Start-button) that makes a sound/starts to blink etc. when there are
new files being created. what i mean is that in one of my folders a program
dumps some files every day that i have to check. however i do not know when
the program dumps the files so it would be very nice if if made a sound or
something. Sorry if i am a bit vague but i really do not know the terms in
english. any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I am not expert on Windows XP, but I wonder whether there are other ways.

For example, do they all get written to the same folder?
If so, can you use the Search facility and specify modified since a specified date (e.g yesterday)?
One could also sort the folder by "Date Modified" or "Date Created" and the latest ones would be at the bottom.

Hi! Thanks for your help! The problem is that I would like to be able to work
with another program while waiting for the files to arrive. As it is now I
have to check the files as soon as they come. However they come within an
hour time window which means that I constantly have to glance to see if the
files have arrived. Needless to say not much work is done during the waiting
period since I have to be attentive to if the files have arrived ot not.
Thus, any form of warning i.e. something that catches your attention would do
the job. I have configured the files so that they come to the same folder
every time (and this folder is empty until the files arrive). I just dont
want to have to check to see if they have come every five minutes. If it is
somehow possible to do this it would be great! Any help is appreciated!
Thanks alot!

OK I understand, but I can't help.

It sounds (no pun intended) like an interesting idea

Perhaps an XP expert will read and give some ideas

Find a developer and write a program using Visual Basic, .Net, etc. to
display a message and/or play a notification sound. Then schedule a task to
run the program every couple of minutes during the time the files are
anticipated. Have the program write a datestamp entry to a log that the
program checks to determine if files have already been processed today. Then
it becomes a "fire and forget" process". That's how I would do it.

Try this:
URL: http://edtrujillo.web.aplus.net/software/monidir2k.exe
Comment: As any changes occur to the contents of these folders, a popup
screen will notify you of the change. The popup screen can also play an
audible alarm, such as a WAV file. Email notification is also available to
keep you informed of changes on network drives. You can select the time
interval, in seconds, for MoniDIR 2000 to use to check the directories. The
monitoring program resides in your system tray and becomes active only when
the timer starts the program. When active, the file monitoring program will
display the files that have been added, deleted, or changed.
