When I attempt to install the HP OfficeJet R80 printer while running Windows
XP, I get the error message "RPC Server is Unavailable". My computer is
connected directly to the printer, and no other computers are connected to
that printer.

Stanley KornSC Tom,

I tried the fix in the link you provided. In the Print Spooler Properties
window, the Startup type was already set to Automatic, but greyed out. When
I clicked Start in the Service status section, I got the following error
message:

Could not start the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator service on Local
Computer.
Error 1068: The dependency services or group failed to start.

Any other ideas?

Strange that the RPC Locator service should give that error; mine shows no
dependencies in either box. Is the RPC service running, or can you start it?
The print spooler requires RPC to be running, which in turn requires the
DCOM Server Process Launcher service to be running.

SC Tom,

I followed the link at the bottom of the page of the link that you first
gave me, after "Customers who viewed this solution also found the following
solutions helpful:" The solution on that second page solved the problem.

Thanks for your help.
