Wonder if he did an upgrade install of Vista and migrated his
XP programs (have only done classic clean installs here), then
maybe he can try to make recovery disks now.
If not, then he can go to HP's site and order the disks online.
They are not that expensive.

| The problem is that the function key used to invoke the recovery partition
| won't work because the non-standard mbr that allowed it has been overwritten
| to point to Vista's bootloader. This has been a problem for a number of
| people, as most did not create the recommended recovery disks when they
| purchased their systems.
