I removed MSAS using the Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel, but the "gcasServ" entry in msconfig's Startup list remains.
How can I get rid of it so I don't have to use Selective Startup?
Thanks for any info.

This should have gone as part of the uninstall, if it wasn't unchecked at
that time.

One way to do it would be to unselect it, which will probably result in an
error message at startup, then reinstall Microsoft Antispyware, then
re-Un-Install Microsoft antispyware.

Otherwise, I think you'd need to edit the registry by hand to do this.

I guess I'll have to do it by hand as I refuse to re-install
that PoS again. Do you know of any links which explain
how to do it by hand?

The MSCONFIG entry gives the registry key involved.

Bearing in mind that Regedit operates live on the registry, with no undo
command or "apply" button:

Start, run, regedit <enter>

Navigate to:

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\run

I would recommend right-clicking this key in the left tree view, and
choosing export, and saving the resultant .REG file in a safe place.

then go to the right pane, highlight (right click) the gcasServ value, and
choose delete.
File Exit to exit Registry Editor.

This assumes that you've reinstated the value via MSCONFIG. MSCONFIG moves
the values around in the registry, and I don't have an example of how they
are moved when disabled to add to this post.
