My Word documents all have punctuation symbols in them. I think that there
is a way to toggle these symbols on and off. Could anyone tell me where to
find it? It is very annoying to have them show up in every document.

I'm always astonished at the number of people who see ¶ symbols in
their documents and don't see the same ¶ symbol on the toolbar or
ribbon. That button turns the nonprinting characters on and off. It's
a shortcut for going into the options dialog and checking/unchecking
the "All" box for displaying the characters. There's also a keyboard
shortcut, Ctrl+Shift+8.

For explanations of the symbols and why you sometimes want to see
them, read http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm.
