get rid of change bars in a document someone else created in Word.

I have a Word doc someone created but I'm not sure in which version. It has
change bars on some of the lines and I need to get rid of them. I am using
Word 2002 on Win XP Pro. I tried going into Show-->Options-->Changed Lines
and turning that off, but they're still there. I even tried
rejecting/deleting all changes in the doc but it tells me there aren't any. I
need to reissue this aircraft manual as a revision and it can't have change
bars in it. How in the heck do I get rid of them?

HELP!!!

If there aren't any changes to reject, then they aren't change bars.
Try clicking on one to see if it might be a drawing object -- if it
grows square "handles" at the ends, just hit Delete.

If what you did didn't affect them then they're not actually change bars
inserted by Track Changes. Instead, they must be borders or graphic lines
applied/inserted manually.

Hi - I checked the document and it doesn't appear that the "change bars" are
graphic in nature (can't "grab" them) or that the text is set up in a table
and the cells set to show borders on the one side. It *does* seem that the
bars are created along the (outside) page margins themselves. Is it possible
to rule or "border" only parts of the page margin?!

Thanks again!

You're sure these are not paragraph borders?

Well I'll be, who'd a thunk it (not ME obviously)?! That's what they are!
What a weird way of putting in change bars. This whole document I inherited
was built incorrectly, and it's making it a real time-consuming task to
update it.

Thanks Suzanne for your answer!!!

Assuming that the border is not part of the paragraph style, clicking in the
paragraph and pressing Ctrl+Q will remove it. If this wreaks havoc with the
rest of the paragraph formatting (as well it may if the whole document is
direct-formatted Normal), click on the Borders button on the Formatting
toolbar and select No Border. This will then be the default action of that
button until you change it.
