Get rid of black screen at the end of show

I have tried going to the advanced settings and unchecking the box. I
clicked okay and resaved my work. The black screen still comes up. Is there
something more that I need to do. I am running 2007.

Does the black screen come up on the same computer where you unchecked the
box? This setting is for the computer not for the file. So you have to
uncheck it on the computer where the presentation should run.

If you are on another PC then definitely what Pia said.

If you are on the same PC then did you click the OK button. You'd be
surprized how many people click the close box instead (which doesn't work!)

Yes, I'm using the same computer.

Amazing enough; yes, I clicked the ok button.

Just to let you know that I can duplicate your issue with my version of
Office 2007 but I also don't have a solution yet but still researching. I
have never thought of the issue as I always like the black screen at the
end.

Do you have any other versions of Office still installed on the system (I
have Office 2003 & 2007 on the system I tested)? Haven't tried a system
without any other versions installed yet.

I don't have any other versions on my system. Normally I would like to have
the black screen, I have a hyperlink I need them to click on and it goes
away. For now I have insearted an invisible box with a 30 second delay and
that is keeping it from moving and ending there. It just seems like there
should be another way or that the unchecking of the box should work.

I did save it as ppt and pps...I had another co-worker try it on her pc and
she got the same thing as I did as well as LVTravel.

Odd. I have only 2007 (SP1 if that makes a difference) on this PC and it
behaves as it should: follows my preference for whether or not to end
with
black screen.

I started a presentation, added some slides, changed the setting to No
Black
Screen and started the slide show, got no black screen. Changed the
setting
back and got a black screen.

I didn't save the presentation or restart PPT or save as PPSX and start
that.

Is that different from what you're doing (LVTravel and Carmyn both)?

Had a little time after your post and tried a quick test. Here's the
result. (Remember that I have PPT 2003 and PPT 2007 co-existing on this
system.)

If I save as a pptx I don't have an issue with switching back and forth
between black ending slide and no ending slide. When I save the file as a
97-2003 compatible .ppt I get the black ending slide even if the setting is
turned off by default. Starting to get interesting. Will test some more
later or tomorrow.

I have 2003 & 2007 co-existing on an XP system, everything all up to date
and I can't repo this behaviour. 2007 obeys my whims on the black slide/no
black slide choice regardless of what file type I save as.

Just thought I would throw that one into the ring :-)

My experience is like Lucy's. I have both 2003 & 2007 on my computer. I tried
saving as pptx and another presentation as ppt. Either way, when I uncheck
the End with Black Slide check box, I don't get a black slide.

Ellen
P.S. Now we know why it's in the "Advanced" section of PowerPoint
options<grin>

I've just tested on my vista/2007 box and I still can't repo the issue.

Might an add-in be causing it?

Tried to repro this here (again, with only PPT 2007 on this PC) and no
black
ending slide.

Actually on the machine that I can duplicate the OPs issue it is a Vista
Ultimate 32 OS, AMD Turion 64X2, 3 GB RAM, with Office Pro '03 and Office
'07 SBE versions all fully updated. I am running AVG free and Zone Alarm
free but these should not have added to the issue. On this particular system
I have no add-ins for Office installed as this is a fairly new system and I
haven't added any of my add-ins from my older systems.

There is obviously a "switch" getting hung up on the program if you can't
switch between the two settings. This one is above my level of expertise
and personally I don't care if the black screen shows. I realize the OP has
a specific reason not to have it show and hope someone else can assist in
the issue.

Thanks for the add'l info. Though I don't know, my guess is that you're
right
about the AV and Firewall software not being an issue.

Q for you or anyone else who wants to pursue this ... might there be
something
blocking access to this bit of the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\PowerPoint\Options

Under that, there's a value, DWORD: SSEndOnBlankSlide

This determines whether PPT shows the black slide or not (0 if no, 1 if
so, 2
if by sea, keep your powder dry, don't fire 'til you see the whites of
their
eyes ... )

On the systems where PPT isn't respecting the user setting, it'd be worth
setting PPT to DISABLE the black slide, then have a look at the reg key
above
to see if it's zero also.

Thanks for the additional info on the registry key. It does give a
reference point to check later. If I have time I'll check it out on this
system. Also when I get time I'll try it on my other systems which has Win
XP SP3 and Win XP SP2 installed on them to see if they have the same
reaction as I also have the same AV & Firewall installed on them.

Ah Ha, the plot thickens.

Tried on my XP SP2 system that currently has every version of PowerPoint
installed from Office 4.3 through 2007 except for O2K. The black slide
switch works correctly on that system.
