Get opticals to autostart from PCI card, how?

I put my 3 opticals on my ATA 133 pci card. The old HP cdwriter will
autostart, but the new Asus cd drive and new Sony DVD writer will not auto
start when I put in a cd. I guess that means they will not boot either.

Is there anyway to fix this while still having the opticals on the pci card?

Thanks.

Autostart in windows or boot to first?

My initial suggestion was to make sure a CD boots in case you need to
run some GUI progs or in worst case have to re-install windows and need
to do it from a bootable install.....

I don't like CD's autostarting in windows.....If I insert a CD I will
right-click "refresh" in "My Computer" and the CD easily shows up....Dbl
click and it launches.........

Autostart is like clicking URLs when you don't know where they lead. If
you enable autostart, you're likely to be infected by something very
nasty in short order, like a Sony DRM rootkit.

Autostart is unrelated to booting - the former is a Windows anomaly,
while the latter is a function of the BIOS.

It seems your old HP writer is able to bypass the no-autostart feature
of the controller. Perhaps the controller manufacturer could fix it with
a BIOS update.

But I have been autostarting for 7 years without any of that happening.
There is also less clicking involved when the folder I am going to go to
anyway already opens up.

Yes, of course, but my point was that my cd's are not starting automatically
or booting because the cd drives are now on the PCI card. The pci card has
its own boot screen that comes after the bios screen. Because they are on
the pci card, they do not show on my monitor until after the boot screen
pops up for the pci card.

Its no big deal. I will just have to put one of my cd drives back on the ide
cable with one of my HDD's.

Thank you.
