Get Online with cable

I have 3 PC all online with a hub on a cable modom that work geat. I just
reinstall windows XP home on a old windows ME pc. But it will not go online.
I change the line with other pc that works fine. But still nothing. I try 4
diffrent network cards that are all good But still cant get on line. Windows
see all the card and drivers seam right. it get a IP but nothing works.
HELP PLZ need to get this PC working for my mom that is in wheel chair and
need to do something befor she gos nuts.

When you say "hub" do you mean a router? Because there is no way a cable
modem is going to let you connect three machines at one time thur a "hub"
unless it is a combo modem and router.
Did you reinstall the Chip Set drivers when you installed the OS?

Yes, there is. You can get three IP addresses from your ISP.
Uncommon, but possible.

True, however, no home user is going to pay for that and the posetr mentioned
nothing of static IP Addresses.

I'd say that home users aren't likely to do it. Why do you mention
static IP addresses? Comcast offers up to five dynamic IP addresses
for home users:

When I left the States , that was VERY uncommon so I guess things are
progressing but not over here in DSL, hades.
 
jmwills & Steve first off thanks for helping.

I have a cable modem that run to my Switch. My cable company (ADELPHIA.net)
give me 5 more dynamic IP addresses for $4.99 more. That is what i have had
now for 4 years. I have run up to 6 PC at one time and never ran into this
before.

I do not run networking on any of them. I am a big gamer so i can not used a
router.

What do you mean by chip set?

I did a full reformat with Windows XP home.

Is this computer getting its IP address from the cable modem? If its
IP address is 169.254.x.x, that means that it isn't. In that case,
it's possible that you have to register the computer's MAC address
with your cable company.

OK guy's got it fix. I went right to the cable modem with the line reset the
modem the turn on the PC BANG it was there. Then i resetup the HUB to the
modem and put the loine in to the hub and PC is running great. Not sure why
but it works that way.

Nice going, Bill. Thanks for reporting the solution.

It's common to have to reset a cable modem when moving it from one
computer (or router) to another. Looks like it's necessary when
adding a computer, too.
