Browser: IE 6.0.28
OS: Win 98

How do I get that download prompt back?!! Ah!!
You know, the one that says 'What do want to do with it'
with 'save it' and 'open it' options.
My browser just saves the file in temp directory and
leaves downloaded file in address bar with grey page.

Have read knowledge base article 238723 (which is for
IE5). The solution doesn't seem to work or I don't
understand the registry change needed. (How do you enter
value 0x1?)

Please help! Cheers, Paul

Open Windows Explorer.
Click Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type and click Edit of Advanced, depending on your
Windows version.
Check the box to Confirm open after download.

Thanks alot Frank! I'm sure this will work for most now
but...

The files I most want to download are programs. (Following
instructions above) this application file type (.exe) has
the 'Edit' button greyed out so that can't click it. :(
How annoying!
Know anyway round this??

Thanks again,
Paul

EXE file should NEVER open instead of downloading. I'm afraid, though, that
I don't know how to fix that.
