Get a program to start with the computer

I know this is elementary but I did not find any answer when searching. I
want a particular software program to start up automatically whenever my
desktop machine starts or restarts. I need it to maintain a link between
the machine and my cell phone when I am not at the machine. Somebody
else--who is not familiar with what I need--may have to restart my desktop
machine from time to time. Thanks.

(There are also a few I don't need to have starting automatically and I
assume the answer to my question above will put me where I can remove
unwanted automatic startups)

Many ways... I'll name some and you can google with the terms...

MSCONFIG will show you the startups..
Registry entries in the RUN area of your profile or overall in HKLM...
The "Startup" folder in the Start Menu...
Scheduled task that runs when you start the computer...
 
Place a shortcut in the Startup Folder

Use msconfig to disable startups, or check the app for an option to 'not
start'
