I have to use an UK Company's network computer (W2k prof,
no admin. rights) in Munich here which has an English
keyboard and character set.

How can I Type/write German Umlaute, eg. instead of ae,
oe, ue?

I have no rights here to change anything.

Many thanks,
Eduard

If you can load another language via the Control Panel / Keyboard
then you should load the German keyboard. The location of Umlaute
is then as follows:
; = ö
' = ä (single quote)
[ = ü
The same symbols, when shifted, produce Ö, Ä and Ü. Of course
you will have to put up with "Y" and "Z" being swapped, and the
parenthesis being moved by one character. You can see the full
layout from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/keyboards.aspx
Just select your language, then wait a minute.

If you cannot load another language then you'll have to use
extended keyboard codes: Turn on NumLock, hold down the Alt
key, type the following number in your numeric keypad, let go
of the Alt key:
ä=0228
ö=0246
ü=0252
Ä=0196
Ö=0214
Ü=0220

You can see the full set of characters by running charmap.exe.
