We have a Widows 2000 workstation and the other day the Auto Update
downloaded and installed the Genuine Windows what ever the rest is,
and now it is saying this is not a legal copy! Yes It Is!

Any Ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Hello Ron,

Phone to MS support, they will help you if the copy is legal.

Best regards

IIRC, updating Windows 2000 from the Microsoft/Windows site requires
manual validation. The process is to download and run a file named
genuinecheck.exe, when asked. If the installed version of Windows 2000
is a legitimate one, then there is a clipboard dialog box containing an
8-character code which is then pasted into another box on the screen.
This completes the validation.

Unless I am mistaken, there is no remote validation for Windows 2000
installations. The manual approach has worked every time.
