Hello,

I am running Win XP Pro on a Pentium 4 system. Several times a day when I
close
out a program the icons on my desktop change to a generic icon.
Then, slowly, the icons change back to what they should be. This has done
so ever since I bought the system. Ant ideas as to what causes this? Cure?

Thanks,
Me

As far as I know a periodic refresh of Explorer and the desktop is normal.
It's not as noticeable on some systems as it is on others. The hardware in
use is related: faster display adapters with their own video RAM will show
these changes less often than a more generic adapter that is borrowing
system RAM to use as video RAM. Workload, total RAM and virtual memory
could come into the equation as well.
