generic host processes error

When I start my computer, I get the error "Generic host process for Win32 Services has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I also have the option to click on a button to "tell Microsoft about the problem," but since I cannot connect to the internet after the generic host process closes, this is a useless option

What is wrong with my machine - what is causing generic host process to close? How can I fix it?

Most likely cause by a trojan/virus.
