Generic Host Process error

Occasionally, I receive a generic host process for Win32 Services error
after I start or restart my computer. When I select error reporting, I
am directed to a Windows site that has a solution
(http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=b17eae55-a5c5-4c4b-927c-bb47ec54853f&SID=1501).
The directions I'm given ask me to access an Update for Windows XP
website. Supposedly, if I download and execute a file, I won't have
this error any more. However, I executed the file and still get the
same error message every so often. What gives? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Is it the problem described here?

Have you restarted the computer after applying it?

The OCA mechanism isn't perfect by any means, and may have misdiagnosed the
problem. The generic host process error can also be due to the installation
of malware, have you scanned the system for spy/ad programs with something
like AdAware or Spybot yet?

That appears to be the problem. I restart immediately and I've scanned (in
safe mode, no less) my computer for viruses/malware/spyware/etc. No luck.

Hi,

Then, as I mentioned, I don't think that the problem is what it appears to
be. You can verify that the right file versions are installed by checking
the library files as described here:

However, personally I would start doing a cleanup of the boot, as I strongly
suspect the problem lies elsewhere.
