ok -- before I screw it all up.

the front panel wires are all very easily identified -- but they don't
actually tell you which wire is what -- but one each plug there is a wire
clearly marked with an arrow and a "s"

Which wire would that be in each case in your estimation?

(Generec case -- no manual)

And if I get it wrong -- will it hurt it?

Thanks!

No go. The USB stuff actually is as well marked as this guide, but the
reset switch, power switch and the LED activity lights are not.

If I put these on crossed, will it hurt the machine at all?

What wires have you identified, and are missing, and what colour are
the wires on this one,

The switches with work either way. The LED's will either work or not,
but it won't hurt them to hook them up backwards, find out they don't
work, then flip them the other way. Just do all your plugging and
unplugging with the system off. ;-)

The reset and power switches will work in any orientation.

If you get the LED plugs backward, the LEDs will not light up. No harm
will be done. Just reverse the plug.

The convention for a non-white wire paired with a white wire is the
non-white wire is 1 or +, while the white is ground or -.
