I want to remove the General tab in IE 6 (Tools>Options)

The Group Policy Editor is not available to Windows XP Home users

I was told that I could use Regedit, local machine or Current Users however
the path that was given does not work:

Path given:
Software\Polices\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

However when you get down to the Microsoft level there isn't an Internet
Explorer sub-folder. I cant even get to the Control Panel option.

Can someone verify the path to remove the General tab on the Control Panel
in IE6?

Thank you

What I see Is Microsoft> Conferencing, Messenger, System Certificates, Windows, Windows NT as sub-folder options

The key you were given is correct. It is not there by default, so you
must create it.
I am not sure why you didn't ask this question in the same post but
either create the keys manually or do this:

Make up a file from the lines below. Copy into a file called fix.reg
which should be created in Notepad. Do not retype, copy in case of
errors. The 1st line in the file is the line REGEDIT4
Make sure your mail or news reader does not add any spaces to the end
of a line.
The last line must be blank.
Ensure the two long lines do not wrap at the space in Internet
Explorer.
Right-click fix.reg and select Merge.

-----copy below this line fix.reg------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel]
"GeneralTab"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel]
"GeneralTab"=dword:00000001

//a value of 0 will show the General Tab
//a value of 1 will hide the General Tab

---- end file above here
