My brother had something really strange happen to his PC.
It's a Windows 98 machine with IE 6.0 running. He was
getting flooded with ads and his default homepage was
some search site. When you go to Tools=>Options you get
the options dialog box but there is NO "General" tab -
therefore you can't change the home page. I searched the
registry for the URL of the search page that it was
defaulting to. It was all over the place. I deleted
every instance of it and put in the page of his choice
manually. However, we still have no "General" tab.
Something still isn't right, then.
He's not sure how this happened. I ran an updated
version of NAV and it came up clean. I installed all MS
security patches and updates (it was 4 YEARS out of date
on both the NAV and MS stuff). I reinstalled IE 6.0, but
there is still no "General" tab.
TIA for any suggestions.
