Hi guys - I am new here - lost my General tab like
everyone else - tried everything posted here - nothing
works!!!!! I have win2k with IE6 SP1

Max,
Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?

Use the attached reg file to repair the corrupted or altered (spyware) HTTP
prefixes:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/RepairDefaultPrefix.reg

Download, right-click and select: Edit (to view in Notepad)
Right-click and select: Merge (to enter the info into the Registry)
Reboot, repost with your results.
[or]
Open Regedit to the following locations and verify the below default
entries:
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Note: edit as needed, *always* Export before editing.

Max,
You'll need this one also ......
1) Restores the missing Tabs in IE (usually spyware related)
2) Unlocks the grayed-out Home Page section
3) Removes the Administrator message in Internet Options
