I am look for some EASY to use genealogy software for my dad to use, he is
in his 60's and not the best computer user around, but gets by.

Freeware would be nice, as long it is aimed at the UK and not too
americanised.

Try Personal Ancestry File available for free from
http://www.familysearch/org

This is a large download (+/- 10 Mb) but easy to use, reliable, and it
has few limitations. I would describe it as ethnicity-neutral.

I am almost 60, use FTM (not freeware), and found it accepts my
American relatives along with my East European ancestry just fine.

;>) Just curious ... but, what could be especially British about a
genealogy program? Are far as my own ancestry, most of my lines
are all British before 1776 ... and every single one of us had two
parents,
were born in or near a township, and in a county. The only difference
I could fathom might be a blank line to enter a "State". But, even
that
for the U.K. would be a good idea. ;>)

There is genealogy software that handle naming conventions uniquely
(but none that I've seen for UK).
For example:
General Family Documentation System - GDS (Windows 95/98)
http://www.gdsystem.net
This Genealogy system mostly used by Spanish Speaking Families, since
it uses three naming conventions
A) The Spanish one: Name/Father-Last-Name/Mother-Last-Name,
B) The Portuguese one: Namer/Mother-Last-Name/Father-Last-Name and
C) The one used by all the Genealogy programs:
Name/Middle-Initial/Last-Name).
The GDS is multilingual (Spanish, Catalan and English). Language is
changed dynamically without stopping the program. It has unique
features such as Last names analysis and multi-family relationship.
There is a Photo album with identification of people and objects into
the image, hyperlinks to multimedia through associations in Windows,
etc.

Use the Photo Album to store your families' Coat of Arms. <g>

The date, in the UK we always use dd/mm/yyyy, and I don't want mm/dd/yyyy,
and also don't want state and zip codes as we use county's and postcodes.

I just want it to be as easy to use for my dad as possible as I am his free
24 hour tech support.

From one who uses Family Tree Maker

If you might publish to a site at some stage or share info make sure the
program is able to
save files as a "Gedcom File" as this is the format used around the world
for family tree's
