My deceased Uncle did a s-ton of work capturing all kinds of genealogy data going back 6 generations, storing it on a 3.5 inch disk using a program called Genealogy On Display (GOD). The files are mostly .bas. I've searched the internet and only find scant references to the shareware program which seems to no longer be available. Unfortunately, I am a dweeb when it comes to programming, but still investigative and capable of following directions.

My Uncle's disc says (basic: /s:256 load menu

Can anyone guide me to extracting these files and formatting in a way that is useful?

Many Thanks,
Kim

Have you tried this website for old software? http://www.oldversion.com/

I found this website describing the software: http://www.worldcat.org/title/genealogy-on-display/oclc/13077990

This is a list of the best genealogy software, maybe they can open your file: https://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-genealogy-family-tree-software.htm

This is another website that describes the software: https://archive.org/details/MicroCom_351_Geneology
Here is the download link: https://archive.org/download/MicroCom_351_Geneology/MicroCom_351_Geneology.zip

If you are still looking I might have some good news for you! Earlier this evening I came across a revised version of Genealogy ON DISPLAY that has been uploaded to this site:

https://github.com/kaderud/Genealogy-ON-DISPLAY

The author of the hack, Christian K. Kaderud, has this to say:

There is no way of exporting the data saved in the program for use in modern genealogy software, and I came across a use-case where the data in the program needed to be exported to a format so it could be processed and converted into a standard GEDCOM file. So I rewrote parts of the code that handles printing, to save the output to a CSV-file instead.

I'm sharing this, so that if there is someone else that has their old genealogy database made with Genealogy ON DISPLAY and need a way to export their data, this little hack may be useful.

If you can master the Usage section things might turn out well for you.
