All,

Not quite sure how to word this so as to make sense, but here goes..
Within the properties of my graphics card there are two drop down menus with the Application Profiles, as per images below. I noticed for the first time that if you drop down the menu theres a list of games/apps. Forgive my ignorance but if I'm using Half Life 2, should I select the Half Life 2 options on both Application and Active Profile? I don't understand how I should be using these settings, if at all. The default settings are "Using Global Driver Settings". Could someone please explain what this is all about, I would be very grateful.

Cheers,

Ian

i think it tweaks your card settings for optimal performance for a sepcific game or application

Make a new 'profile' and set it for the HL2 settings ... just before you play HL2 use that profile and away you go.

How well can you play HL2 on that card? i would have thought it would be unplayable!

HL2 will run on with that card, although most certainly not at 1024*768 with everything turned on :D turns out all the hype about it needing a Cray supercomputer to run was unfounded... (that and doom 3 and far cry stole its glory) :D

I've played HL2 for about an hour only, (only got it yesterday) set to 1024x768 and not noticed any issues at all, that's with all options turned on.

a 64mb card with everything turned on? even in the advanced video section?

ok....

I had no reason to lie.. All advanced settings were increased to the max, just to see what happened.

I've played for 3 hours today and there was some jerkiness after about an hour and a half when there was a lot happening on screen, enough for me to tone things back down to default settings. This sorted out the jerkiness.

I'm watching you ... You Celtic beastie ... ;)

If the man can play the game whith what he's got, and be happy about it, why worry.

Maybe you need to try it with the nVida's 'tweek' as is uKJAG :p

I just noticed too uKJAG ... you don't have the divers for your monitor installed ... may help even more. :D

What monitor is it?

Thanks for that!

I couldn't find the driver for my particular model on there, but visited the IIYAMA site and eventually tracked a set of drivers including mine. When trying to update the driver get a messagesaying that it couldn't find a better match. Is my monitor that bad and old?? :(

No, Iiyama aint that good with their drivers ... try 'em out, you can always "rollback" if not good.

I use 'em on my VM Pro 455, but the monitor is a MM904UT 'A' ... now I can have 120Hz if I wish, but actually find 85Hz the best for me.

:D

Thanks for that, there are drivers for the E430 S and T and E431/35 etc.. so will give those a go and see how I get on.

Just like to say thanks for all the help. This really is a great site :D Wish I'd know about this a long time ago.

I layed hl on my old geforce 4 mx440 on agp 4x(:O) and it happily played with medium seting
