Hello everyone:

In my new HP laptop (zv5410us) w/GeForce 4, 440 Go video card (64mb
dedicated), Xp64 OS placed generic drivers for my video card (No dual
monitor support). I got the Nvidia drivers from their website, the
66.96winxp64_english and the
nForce_6.25_winxp64_inter
but neither one will install, it goes to the process and
ask me to restart the computer but the same generic driver remains, any
suggestion?
Thanks Re

AMD ATHLON 64, 3000
GeForce 4, 440 Go
Dual bootup, win xp home (drivers fine)
Win xp Pro XP64 (Problem w/drivers)

This one is a driver for Nvidia's mainboard chipsets, not for VGA.

Check properties of the VGA driver in device manager, you should see
the driver version. It may be possible, that Nidia's driver is
identical to the generic one your XP64eval provides.
Also, it might be possible that you'll have to install chipset drivers,
too.

And always think about the fact, that your Windows Demo is not ready to
market, and that only few working drivers and apps exist.

Hello Michael:

Thank you for your reply.

When I try to install the Nvidia drivers, (like any other drivers)I do have
the option to chose from a list or specific location, I direct it to the
66.96 folder (all files decompressed) and then it will tell me the best
drivers are already installed. (Standard vga, no dual monitor and lower
resolution I would get with the Nvidia drivers).

I did try to uninstall the standar drivers and install the Nvidia to no
avail.

I tried to install the Nvidia 32 bit drivers as well.

I did rename couple of the files as well (nv4_disp.inf, dl to dll, etc.)no
avail.

The Beta Windows X64-based edition (windows Demo) allow us to experience
challenges

and we all benefit and it give me pleasure to do it, I know that still are
many

driver that need to be adjusted to 64 bits, that at this point they are
incompatible, however, Nvidia has always been a pioneer, so I know there
must be a way to get it to work

with its 64 bit drivers.

As I mentioned before, the laptop is a

HPzv5410us, with GeForce 4 440 Go, 64mb (dedicated memory).

I have the feeling that other people with the same laptop model must be

encountering the same challenge in x64.

Thank you
(Enjoying the x64 experience).

to get this gpu work under xp 64, you need to do a driver change and
select geforce mx 440. This works in the normal mode but it doesn't
support standby and for some reason nvidia doesn't have the go drivers
in the xp 64 driver releases even though they are supported in the
latest linux 64 bit driver set. you can download the latest xp 64
drivers from nvidia's download pages.

Hi,
[snipped a lot]
As I mentioned before, the laptop is a
HPzv5410us, with GeForce 4 440 Go, 64mb (dedicated memory).

And I that point I forgot that. The mobile VGA chipsets are very often
not supported by the driver packages available from Nvidia. So you are
dependent on the drivers the manufacturer of your notebook will supply.

I have the same issue using XP32bit on my toshiba notebook (Geforce go
420). There I have to run some old drivers I received via Windows
update a year ago. Also the drivers included in SP1 did work, those
from SP2 didn't. The only other drivers that are worth to be tried out
are the modded version from www.omegadrivers.net.
I have the feeling that other people with the same laptop model must
be encountering the same challenge in x64.

You seem to be right. And I think, that _all_ notebooks are affected,
at least those equipped with VGA-chipset by Nvidia.
Thank you
(Enjoying the x64 experience).

Regards, Michael (will stick with W2k on his AMD64)
