I have recently updated to the spyware version below:

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.614
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5729 (7/1/2005 10:38:34 PM)

What i am finding within Task Manager is that the
GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe runs at least once or twice every minute.
Eventually gcasDTServ.exe joins the list, and when it does it pins the
system to 99-100%, bogging down the PC and any other application running at
the moment.

What is going on here? I have the configuration to auto update at 4am...
not every 30 seconds.

I applied both suggestions (uninstalled MSAS, applied VB fix, and
reinstalled MSAS). Loaded tack manager, and watched the same issue occur.

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately it did not work for me.

Its possible that spyware is lurking on your system, I would restart in
safemode, open Microsoft AntiSpyware, on the scan page, choose scan options
full system scan > (check boxes below) > click "Run Scan Now".

Also:
Users have been experiencing issues with recent 614 build of Microsoft
AntiSpyware updating to the latest definitions. It seems there is some under
the hood issues in the latest BETA builds of the product that have escaped
the team concerning perpetual updating from the same 5725 to 5729 or 5731
definitions. Not worry, Plun has provided fix in the mean time until the
Microsoft AntiSpyware Team gets this straigthened out.

Thanks Plun

"Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware
Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."
