I ran AntiSpyware on my mother's computer, found a
bunch of spyware, removed it and now when I reboot,
only the background image of the desktop shows up -
no desktop icons, no Start menu - until I do ctrl-
alt-delete and kill gsASCleaner which is taking up
100% of the CPU. How can I fix this?
 
try booting into safe mode and run a full scan

Have you tried posting your problems
not related to MS AntiSpyware to
